One of my most favorite pieces. Born from a doodle and painstakingly recreated in Adobe Illustrator. Ink doodle: 30-45 minutes—Digital recreation: 600 hours. Painting My Friend turned this drawing into something fun and fantastical. It’s interesting how people interpret the title and also how they see the “white-haired” child (who was originally black-haired)—as a prince, princess, boy, girl, and what “the friend” is—a dog, a wolf, even a cat?

Note: there’s no real horizon. If you turn your head you can see creatures in a top-hat steamed engine auto and a garden of spatulas. Throughout are feral cats, parts of creatures unknown, a sparkly, and plenty of mushrooms and psychedelic flowers.
